Woodroffe co-authored Civil Procedure in British India and was appointed Standing Counsel to the Government of India. He became Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court in 1915. After retiring, he served as Reader in Indian Law at Oxford. His writings on Tantra and yoga significantly influenced Western interest in Hindu traditions. He died in 1936.
